Overview

Porter's is a standout barbecue restaurant nestled in Nebraska City, Nebraska, that delivers a genuine taste of Midwestern smokehouse tradition. Located conveniently on Arbor Avenue, this spot crafts its menu around smoky, tender meats and homestyle sides that evoke the comfort and soul of classic barbecue.

The heart of Porter's dining experience lies in its expertly prepared brisket, pulled pork, and burnt ends. These dishes come with a smoky depth and tender texture that speaks to the care and skill in the pitmaster's craft. The brisket plate and burnt ends, paired with baked beans and a side of cornbread, create a satisfying meal that’s both hearty and flavor-rich. The cornbread arrives warm, with a slightly sweet contrast that complements the rich meats perfectly.

For those seeking a bit of Southern flair, the menu offers pulled pork nachos and the remarkable Porter’s Pit House Stack—a layered sandwich of pulled pork, brisket, coleslaw, pickles, and barbecue sauce that really showcases the variety of smokehouse flavors in one dish. The tacos, an unexpected but welcome addition, feature choices like pork verde and beef barbacoa, served with fresh corn tortillas and a delicious jalapeño crema, adding a delightful twist that broadens the barbecue appeal.

The atmosphere at Porter's is casual and inviting, ideal for families and barbecue enthusiasts looking for a relaxed yet flavorful meal. It’s evident from customer feedback that the restaurant places strong emphasis on community and quality—using local ingredients, like seasonal hard cider crafted from apples sourced nearby, to complement the smoky dishes.

Customers consistently praise the quality of the meat and the attentive service. One diner highlighted the transformation under a new pitmaster, noting the perfect tenderness and smoky richness of both the burnt ends and brisket, drawing favorable comparisons to nationally renowned barbecue joints. The sides and unique touches—such as the pickled green beans and homemade jam accompanying cornbread—showcase thoughtful detail that elevates the meal beyond typical barbecue fare.

While there are minor drawbacks, such as limited beverage options and the absence of tap water, the overall experience at Porter's is exceptional. The restaurant strikes an impressive balance between value and quality, making it a must-visit destination for visitors to Nebraska City and locals alike.

In conclusion, Porter's serves up not just food but an experience rich in tradition, craftsmanship, and local flavor. It’s a spot that honors barbecue’s roots while adding its own distinctive touch—perfect for those seeking genuine, comforting smoked meats in a welcoming setting.

We ate here on one of the days (today) when we stayed at Lied Lodge. Fabulous food and service. We had the brisket stuffed baked potato and the pulled pork stuffed baked potato! Great comfort food! We also enjoyed a Nebraska beer and a hard cider made from the apples on Arbor Farm. We love supporting local when we vacation. This is a definite must!

I ordered ordered burnt ends entree with burnt end beans. For the 2nd entree it was a brisket entree with cornbread and buttered bread that is included in all meals. It came with this interesting tasting jam that must have come with the cornbread. The burnt ends were very tender, had nice fat, not dry at all, meaty and smokey. You really can't ask for more from good burnt ends! The burnt ends baked beans were really good as well! Pickled green beans was an interesting touch as well. The brisket entree was just as tender, meaty and smokey as the burnt ends. I've had Q39 and Joe's Kansas City BBQ so I think I'd know good BBQ and this was really good! Two meals was only around $35 which is a really good value for what we received. I asked the cashier about the negative reviews on here and she told me that they had hired a new pitmaster and I can really tell they are the right person for the job! So if you have received dry brisket in the past it shouldn't be happening anymore and hopefully it's more consistent like my experience was. A few things that were a bit off was that bottled water was $3 so the same price as bottled soda with no tap water and they were out of certain soda but I still give it a five star experience overall. We will for sure be back again!
